A practice built around what happens after go-live.

Bytewave is a data platform and cloud engineering firm in Winfield, Illinois, working remotely with teams across the United States. We build the layer your reporting sits on, and we build it to be handed over.

Most data work is sold as a project and lived with as a system. The presentation ends, the invoice clears, and somebody is still there at seven in the morning finding out why the load did not finish. Bytewave is organised around that second part: the platform still being correct, still being fast enough, and still being understood, a year after the engagement closed.

In practice that means we work in the parts of the Microsoft data stack other firms avoid. The packages with no documentation. The models that were correct three reorganisations ago. The migration that was started, half finished and quietly parked when the budget moved. That work is unglamorous, it does not photograph well, and it is where most of the value sits.

We take a small number of engagements at a time. That is a deliberate choice about depth rather than a stage we are trying to grow out of. It means the people who scope your work are the people who do it, and that a question about a design decision reaches somebody who was in the room when it was made.

How we work

You hear what we actually find

Including when the honest answer is that your platform is fine and the problem is somewhere else. An assessment that finds nothing wrong is still worth what you paid for it, and it is cheaper than a rebuild you did not need.

Nothing goes live without a way back

Every migration keeps the old path available until the new one has matched it for a full cycle. Slower on paper, faster in practice, and it means a bad Monday is recoverable instead of a crisis.

Your team owns the result

We work in your repositories, on your pipelines, with your engineers reviewing the changes. A client who cannot maintain what we built is a failed engagement, not a retainer opportunity.

Estimates are ranges with reasons

You get a best case, a likely case, and the specific unknowns that decide which one you land on. When something moves, you hear about it that week rather than at the end of the month.

We say no when it is not our work

If the problem sits outside the data platform, or the timeline needs a scale we are not the right shape for, we say so at the first call. Turning work down costs us a project and saves you a quarter.

What we do not do

  • Staff augmentation by the seat. We take responsibility for outcomes, not for filling a chair on your org chart.
  • Licence resale or vendor commission. What we recommend is what we would run ourselves, with nothing riding on which product you pick.
  • Work outside the data platform. Front end builds, application development and general IT support are somebody else's speciality.
  • Anything we cannot document well enough to leave behind.
